Package: maildrop Version: 1.5.3-2 Severity: normal Maildrop randomly and mysteriously fails to deliver some messages. I have attached a specimin and my .mailfilter file. In this case, message delivery fails as follows:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ maildrop < 1128616898.8306_5.jester\:2\,S && echo true || echo false maildrop: error writing to mailbox. maildrop: Unable to deliver to mailbox. false The log file contains the following stanza: Date: Thu Oct 6 09:48:15 2005 From: Nigel Cunningham <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subj: Re: [Suspend2-users] Log file does not generate in !Err: |/usr/bin/lbdb-fetchaddr (13128) So the error occurs trying to pipe the message to lbdb-fetchaddr. However, if I feed the message into lbdb-fetchaddr by hand, everything works fine -- indeed, if I replace lbdb-fetchaddr with "/bin/true", I get the same response. So the problem is not that lbdb-fetchaddr fails; something is going wrong inside maildrop while it tries to deliver to lbdb-fetchaddr. It does still sound to me like you have some problem that is specific to using sudo to start hibernate. I use that method sometimes, so I know it can work. Perhaps it is permissions related? > However, I have an issue with this. When I resumed, I was still logged in as > root on the console. How do I ensure that I have a more secure setup than > this ? (imagine someone else trying to resume while I am away from the desk). There are a number of things that you can do: Do you have a sleep button on your computer? If so, perhaps you could initiate the suspend using acpid. The hibernate script includes options for locking the screen on resume - you could enable one of them. You could also set up a BIOS password. > A few questions (please point me to a suitable URL if these are of that > annoying newbie who did not read the FAQ variety) : > > 1. How much power does the laptop consume while it is hibernating ? (I mean, > how many days will it last if I hibernate on a full charge ?). It depends on what powerdown_method you use. If it is set to 5, the computer is truly powered off, and so uses the same amount of power as when you init 0. (I won't promise zero because with things the way they are nowadays, off may not really zero). Similarly for 4. If you set the powerdown_method to 3, the computer will suspend to ram after hibernating. This means that even if the battery does run out, you can still resume. > 2. Is it possible to suspend to RAM instead of hibernating ? (I mean a state > where the laptop does not poweroff at all - would be very useful for daily > use). See above.
