There is still the question, how to solve all these "Incorrectly thinks it's building as root" bugs. From the arguments in this thread I conclude that the error is in pbuilder's handling of $USER and that we are not going to patch the affected packages. If nobody objects I am going to file a bug report for pbuilder with severity "important" and block on it.
