The bug is annoying and the fix has a low regression risk, but an easy
workaround exist (rm lock file). You do not do harm. Getting it fixed in
squeeze just takes some time walking the update process route (which
include explaining to the release team why it should be fixed in
stable). I am just too busy with other stuff for doing it without having
someone pushing and helping me.
