I eventually asked for windows formated iPod boot sectors on the iPodLinux forum ( http://ipodlinux.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4232 ) so maybe I'll be able to write support for it even without apple help. But this obviously will take some time, especially to make sure whether fields in the merged DBR must be updated or not in case of editition of the second partition entry. Also I guess the first partition entry must not be touched (and must be considered not empty even if the ID means empty) and this needs some specific code. So I don't even know if the code to support the windows formatted iPod partition table will be written at all, as this seems to be a non trivial amount of work.
