Thin provisioning is still 'experimental' but users should try to use and report bugs and problems.
As for thin_check tool - user could elimitnate it's usage by setting: /etc/lvm/lvm.conf global { thin_check_executable="" } # empty string But in general checks should not be skipped! Currently are being done before activation and after deactivation of thin pool. thin utils should be probably packaged as separate package - They are usable with dmsetup, they do not depend on lvm2. Unsure about lvm2 dependency - since thin utils are only needed if user plans to use thin provisioning - and they have C++ deps - thus it adds some extra libs to the core system.
