That's an interesting case; thanks for discovering and reporting it! Here's what's happening: as part of the self-test procedure, libifp attempts to list the main directory.. which it should be able to do unless the filesystem is corrupt.. and you could fix that by formatting the filesystem, except libifp can't because it selftest fails.
