So you created a custom keyboard shortcut (in gnome-control-center) which runs xrandr when pressing Fn+F7? If not, how is this keyboard shortcut configured/setup/triggered? > I suggest to detect whether xrandr is working or not. I don't think this is solveable within gnome-settings-daemon if you simply run xrandr from a keyboard shortcut. I'd suggest running a shell script instead which does the necessary sanity check.
