as noted above, this is hard to reproduce and rarely happens twice in a
row (but that happens too).
for a while I was wondering if this is related to bad memory but then I
realized it's happening on all machines.
funny thing is, this was supposedly fixed in 0.9.3 but I've been really
noticing this only in the past couple of weeks, around the timeframe
when 0.9.3 hit testing.
