Package: mailscanner Version: 4.41.3-2 Severity: minor
The way that the README proposes to configure sendmail is at least not ideal. You don't need to mess with init scripts which are overwriten. Setting sendmail and mailscanner in Debian is as easy as the following: ============================================================================= 1 - Create /var/spool/mqueue.in with the same permissions than /var/spool/mqueue 2 - Edit /etc/mail/sendmail.conf and set DAEMON_PARMS to: DAEMON_PARMS="-OPrivacyOptions=noetrn -ODeliveryMode=queueonly -OQueueDirectory=/var/spool/mqueue.in"; 3 - cd /etc/mail and type make after changing sendmail.conf in step 2. 4 - /etc/init.d/sendmail reload 5 - Edit /etc/MailScanner/MailScanner.conf and change at least the following: Incoming Queue Dir = /var/spool/mqueue.in Outgoing Queue Dir = /var/spool/mqueue Run As User = After starting it for the first time it may warn about lack of privileges in some directories, just follow the instructions given. ============================================================================== I have configured it this way successfully many times and it's running in production environments with a heavy load. I Hope you find it useful. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.25 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages mailscanner depends on: ii debconf 1.4.30.13 Debian configuration management sy ii libarchive-zip-perl 1.14-1 Module for manipulation of ZIP arc ii libcompress-zlib-perl 1.34-1 Perl module for creation and manip ii libconvert-binhex-perl 1.119-2 Perl5 module for extracting data f ii libconvert-tnef-perl 0.17-4 Perl module to read TNEF files ii libhtml-parser-perl 3.45-2 A collection of modules that parse ii libmime-perl 5.417-1 Perl5 modules for MIME-compliant m ii libnet-cidr-perl 0.10-1 Manipulate IPv4/IPv6 netblocks in ii ncftp 2:3.1.8-1 A user-friendly and well-featured ii perl 5.8.4-8 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii sendmail-bin [mail-transport- 8.13.4-3 powerful, efficient, and scalable ii spamassassin 3.0.3-2 Perl-based spam filter using text ii ucf 1.17 Update Configuration File: preserv ii unzip 5.52-1 De-archiver for .zip files ii wget 1.9.1-12 retrieves files from the web -- debconf information: mailscanner/v3_upgrade: Don't upgrade -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
