Package: darcsum
Version: 1.10-4
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/lib/emacsen-common/packages/install/darcsum

I've still got emacs21 installed but darcsum fails to byte-compile with
it due to lack of gnus-fun.el in that emacs.

I presume from the site-start files

    /etc/emacs23/site-start.d/50darcsum.el
    /etc/xemacs21/site-start.d/50darcsum.el

that darcsum is only for use with those flavours. If that's so then
/usr/lib/emacsen-common/packages/install/darcsum might restrict its
byte-compiling to them.

I couldn't tell what if anything gnus-fun.el is used for. I take it
from `darcsum-install-gnus-code' that the gnus tie-in is supposed to be
optional, but the (require 'gnus-fun) etc ends up loading it in the byte
compile, even though darcsum-install-gnus-code defaults to false.

(Those eval-when-compile or eval-and-compile things can be a bit
painful. Often it's easier to leave require etc to runtime, and ignore
warnings about functions "not known to be defined" in the compile.)
