Package: dpkg-dev
Version: 1.16.3
Severity: wishlist

It would be nicer if the debian-changes or debian-changes-version
files that are created by dpkg-source automatically had a .patch (or
.diff?) extension, so that editors and other tools knew how to deal
with them automatically. It's generally nicer if all files have a
useful extension for easier identification.

I don't know whether it's possible to introduce this in a backward
compatible way, but if it is, please consider it.
