Yeah, the mapnik dir is hardcoded in the C code and needs to be changed. see the patch applied via sed here: https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/browser/livedvd/gisvm/tags/release_20120228_osgeolive_5_5_0/bin/install_gpsdrive.sh#L139
