Package: unattended-upgrades Version: 0.76.3 Severity: important Hi,
Before the upgrade, the configuration file /etc/profile was not declared as a conf file in the 'base-files' package (checked via «dpkg -S»). This caused u-a to fail at detecting the conffile prompt: | Extracting templates from packages: 100% | Preconfiguring packages ... | (Reading database ... 319320 files and directories currently installed.) | Preparing to replace base-files 6.7 (using .../base-files_6.8_i386.deb) ... | Unpacking replacement base-files ... | Processing triggers for man-db ... | Processing triggers for install-info ... | Setting up base-files (6.8) ... | | Configuration file `/etc/profile' | ==> File on system created by you or by a script. | ==> File also in package provided by package maintainer. | What would you like to do about it ? Your options are: | Y or I : install the package maintainer's version | N or O : keep your currently-installed version | D : show the differences between the versions | Z : start a shell to examine the situation | The default action is to keep your current version. | *** profile (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ? dpkg: error processing base-files (--configure): | EOF on stdin at conffile prompt | Errors were encountered while processing: | base-files | | Error in function: | SystemError: E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) | ERROR:root:Installing the upgrades failed! | ERROR:root:error message: 'installArchives() failed' I was not able to reproduce (for debug) by downgrading because «dpkg» marked the file as conffile and did not prompt for installing the new version afterwards. Could be a bug in dpkg?
