Package: base Severity: normal Subsequent to submitting this report, I wrote a comprehensive SHMEM Detective Program. The upshot (from IPC_STAT and SHM_STAT on each of the 16 existing SHMEM segments reported by "ipcs -a") is that all of the existing shmem items are related somehow to the gnome desktop and to related background services. Thanks for your efforts in keeping Debian viable on a 2000-vintage G4 PPC Mac tower (M7826LL/A). It may be slower than more recent systems, but It's Paid For - 12 years ago. It still runs well - in fact, the BLAS test programs achieve a 750Mips rate (on a 350MHz processor).
