FHS about /var:
Applications must generally not add directories to the top level of /var. Such
directories
should only be added if they have some system-wide implication, and in
consultation with the
FHS mailing list.
So I think it should move to /var/run/agentx
The wonderful thing about standards is that there are so many of them to
choose from.
RFC 2741 (Agent Extensibility (AgentX) Protocol):
8.2.1. Well-known Values
The master agent creates a well-known UNIX-domain socket endpoint
called "/var/agentx/master". (It may create other, implementation-
specific endpoints.)
This endpoint name uses the character set encoding native to the
managed node, and represents a UNIX-domain stream (SOCK_STREAM)
socket.
