The issue got improved after upgrading the system (Debian Testing): gnome-shell: 3.2.2.1-2 java:openjdk-6-jre 6b24-1.11.1-3
The icon now appears. It has a correct tooltip (Serviio), but incorrect caption (JavaEmbeddedFrame). The menu is partially hidden behind the semi-transparent tray but all the menu items are clickable. -- Rafał Rutkowski rrutkow...@gmail.com
