Confiriming reopen - though my modification in init script are in, Daniel's thoughts about cron entries were not.
Daniel - I've taken a look on your patch, and suggest you to remove lines about permission changes: + chgrp sphinxsearch "$PIDFILE" + chmod g+r "$PIDFILE" As if sphinx started under sphinxsearch it already should/will create pid file under that user.
