Package: icedove
Version: 3.0.11-1+squeeze8
Severity: important

Icedove redownloads all message headers for no good reason.

Take a situation IMAP with 100000 messages of which 99999 are already on the
client. Icedove happily starts downloading 100000 messages, which makes
an operation which should take 50ms (is there mail? Yes? Fetch new mail,
put in database), in the order of minutes, which is thus 200 times
slower than what is possible.

At this rate, it would be faster to pick up the phone, hand dial the
number, ask an operator to use the switch board to connect me to some
place.

In short, this is ridiculous. There are more people having this problem
(multiple people on getsatisfaction.com). This problem has been known
since at least 2010 and probably has existed forever.

I also take suggestions for mail clients that do work, but they should
be feature complete.

If you say that Icedove in fact has been an elaborate joke, please
explain the joke as it is beyond my comprehension.
