Sorry but I disagree that the bug should be closed: all that changed is that it is now "documented" in README.Debian to do things wrong. Why not use the trivial patch proposed, instead? (I do wonder about Message 36 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=295435#36 and what examples there might be of such broken MUAs...)
Admittedly, bug #296190 has been fixed, so this is less important. And we do not use sylpheed anymore, thunderbird is so much better.
