Sorry but I disagree that the bug should be closed: all that changed
is that it is now "documented" in README.Debian to do things wrong.
Why not use the trivial patch proposed, instead?

Admittedly, bug #296190 has been fixed, so this is less important.
And we do not use sylpheed anymore, thunderbird is so much better.
