@Marco: please have a look at http://bugs.debian.org/668575 . He is right, I found "MaxPassBuf = 512;" in FileUtils.cpp and there are no warnings about the ignored rest of the passphrase after entering it. AFAICS this limitation is also not properly documented in the manpage, the only mentioned limit is for --extpass and it says 2k! Please advise... should I change the manpage or change that limit (I expect complains about incompatibilities with older encfs or other distros) or wait for you to change it (and hopefully add warnings)? > So, does it mean that encfs fooled me by mounting the directories at > creation than refusing to re-mount, and I'll be obliged to > re-transfer 512GB of data (which took almost 4 days on my old XP2600+ > because the partition free place left is < whole dir)? No. Just shorten your passphrase to contain the first 510 characters (excluding newline). > I remember having this problem 2-3 years ago when testing encfs for > the 1st time, and it was linked to... the p/w length; this is why Versions before 1.4 allowed only 64 chars but I seriously assumed that 2k have been possible for years.
