That was true in version 2:1-2, but is fixed in 2:1-3.

  $ go version
  go version go1

golang (2:1-3) unstable; urgency=high

  * Use VERSION provided by upstream for packaging purposes

There was a build failure in 2:1-3 that meant you wouldn't have got this
update if you're on i386, but Ondřej fixed that in 2:1-5, and
https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?pkg=golang indicates you'll
see it soon.
