Package: gnome-packagekit Version: 3.4.0-2 Severity: normal File: gpk Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation? I wanted to install chrome from Google. Downloaded google-chrome- stable_current_amd64.deb file provided by Google. My system is a hybrid wheezy/unstable configured with apt-pinning. I opened the file with the option "Open with Software Install" from Nautilus. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Opening the file with "Open with Software Install" opens/uses Gnome-packagekit to install the google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb. Packagekit exits with two identical messages: One from gpk-dbus-service and another from Gpk-install- local-file GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._pk_5ftransaction_5ferror.Code4: SimulateInstallFiles not supported by backend GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._pk_5ftransaction_5ferror.Code4: SimulateInstallFiles not supported by backend I decided to install package with Gdebi. Gdebi installed package, but failed to create menu icon in list of applications under Gnome 3 menu. * What was the outcome of this action? I had to manually add a link using alacarte to point to /opt/google/google- chrome * What outcome did you expect instead? I expected gnome-packagekit to install package without error messages but it may be the way Google packages their deb file. The deb file installs program in /opt/ directory. In Ubuntu, package installs correctly and menu icon is shown in unity and gnome-shell desktop environments. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (900, 'unstable'), (700, 'testing'), (600, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gnome-packagekit depends on: ii dconf-gsettings-backend [gsettings-backend] 0.10.0-3 ii gnome-packagekit-data 3.4.0-2 ii gnome-settings-daemon 3.2.2-3 ii libatk1.0-0 2.4.0-2 ii libc6 2.13-27 ii libcairo-gobject2 1.12.0-2 ii libcairo2 1.12.0-2 ii libcanberra-gtk3-0 0.28-4 ii libcanberra0 0.28-4 ii libdbus-1-3 1.5.12-1 ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.98-1 ii libfontconfig1 2.8.0-3.1 ii libfreetype6 2.4.9-1 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.26.0-2 ii libglib2.0-0 2.32.0-4 ii libgtk-3-0 3.2.3-1 ii libnotify4 0.7.5-1 ii libpackagekit-glib2-14 0.7.3-2 ii libpango1.0-0 1.30.0-1 ii libsqlite3-0 3.7.11-2 ii libupower-glib1 0.9.15-3 ii libx11-6 2:1.4.4-4 ii packagekit 0.7.3-2 gnome-packagekit recommends no packages. gnome-packagekit suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
