Package: gnome-packagekit
Version: 3.4.0-2
Severity: normal
File: gpk

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
I wanted to install chrome from Google. Downloaded google-chrome-
stable_current_amd64.deb file provided by Google. My system is a hybrid
wheezy/unstable configured with apt-pinning. I opened the file with the option
"Open with Software Install" from Nautilus.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
Opening the file with "Open with Software Install" opens/uses Gnome-packagekit
to install the google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb. Packagekit exits with
two identical messages: One from gpk-dbus-service and another from Gpk-install-
local-file
GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._pk_5ftransaction_5ferror.Code4:
SimulateInstallFiles not supported by backend

GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._pk_5ftransaction_5ferror.Code4:
SimulateInstallFiles not supported by backend

I decided to install package with Gdebi. Gdebi installed package, but failed to
create menu icon in list of applications under Gnome 3 menu.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
I had to manually add a link using alacarte to point to /opt/google/google-
chrome
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
I expected gnome-packagekit to install package without error messages but it
may be the way Google packages their deb file. The deb file installs program in
/opt/ directory. In Ubuntu, package installs correctly and menu icon is shown
in unity and gnome-shell desktop environments.
