Same issue for me with 7.1.10 release (testing) but not in 7.1.6 (stable squeeze) with my drive. dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/dvd INQUIRY: [_NEC ][DVD_RW ND-3540A ][1.04] with last firmware.
