Package: apticron
Version: 1.1.45
Severity: wishlist

Hi all,

Tiago Bortoletto Vaz, the maintainer for the apticron package, requested I post
this wishlist feature request.

I had emailed him the following:

Hi there,

apticron is a neat tool, but it tells about all the packages. On some
servers, we only want to know if there is a security update or
something is urgency=high. How does one configure apticron to send
emails only in those situations?

Thanks in advance for your help,

His response:

Hi Philip,

If you keep only stable and security sources in your sources.list you'll get
only security (ou very important) update notifications from stable release.

Do you think you need something more complex? If so, please elaborate a bit and
file a bug report in Debian bts. You can use reportbug tool for that. You can
also do it by email (http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting).

Regards,

Hence this email.

We have servers which need repositories in our /etc/apt/sources.list which do
not
have separate security and non-security components. So when apticron runs, it
reports everything, both security and non-security, both low and high urgency.

But with apticron, we only care about high urgency security updates. We'd like
it to email us
only for security urgency=high updates. Currently there is no way to configure
apticron to do just that -- so in the end we have to run filters in gmail.

We'd love it if such an option was implemented. Thank you in the advance for
your help.

- Phil
