Package: postfix-ldap
Version: 2.9.1-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

After upgrading from 2.8.7-1 to 2.9.1-2 doing LDAP lookups started failing:

postfix/trivial-rewrite[29894]: warning: dict_ldap_connect: Unable to bind to
server ldap://localhost:389 with dn empty or implicit: 2 (Protocol error)
postfix/trivial-rewrite[29894]: warning: ldap:/etc/postfix/ldap-alias.cf: table
 lookup problem
postfix/trivial-rewrite[29894]: warning: virtual_alias_domains lookup failure

This was solved by adding the following line to the LDAP configuration file:

version = 3

Nothing changed in on the LDAP server side, version was unchanged, and no
changes were made to the configuration.

So I am wondering: Could it be that in the Debian package 2.8.x the LDAP version
defaulted to 3 and that with the upgrade to 2.9.x this Debian specific change
was lost?

If so, please consider changing the default to version 3 again. If not, what
could
have caused my setup to work with 2.8 and to fail with 2.9?

Sincererly,

Laurens
