When trying to administrate a database, New Server Instance fails at step Management and OS when trying to add a local MySQL (installed with mysql-server-5.1). MySQL Workbench prompts for an Operating System (clearly Linux) and a MySQL Installation Type. The latter is less easy. The default "Generic Linux (MySQL tar package)" fails:
