Yes, indeed. The problem is that libgtk has been updated to a version
that breaks several other packages, another instance is #665374 for eog.

I consider this a serious bug of libgtk, as it breaks unrelated software.

I have already tried a few remedies without success, consulting wiht
upstream author, too. Unfortunately the latest version of upstream
cannot be packaged for Sid at the moment, as the necessary dependencies
are still in experimental:

Question for the libgtk maintainers: Why on earth do you break existing
package when you anyway have the lastest version in experimental? So either
make a clean cut and go for the version in experimental, or keep
backward compatibility, please.

I have no intention to fix a bug that was introduced by libgtk due
to a half-way upgrade in sid. I intend to wait until the updated
libgtk arrives in sid from experimental to upload the latest version
of gwaei to Debian.

Best wishes

Norbert
