It's a good practise to name the daemons so that they use consistent naming. It has been ages that all daemons are traditionally called with the "d" at the end. If this sounds silly, then there must be something wrong with the Unix legacy right from the 1970's. How do you feel about the other daemons? slapd? lpd? mysqld? ...
