You already found it out on pgsql-hackers, but for the recors and other interested readers: currently there are many problems with BUS errors on some architectures (#329197), which are also responsible for the VIEW problem you described. I hoped to debug that quickly, but it is much harder than I expected, and the problem is also discussed upstream. That's why I built -16 with gcc-3.3 on the problematic platforms. This seems to have helped for sparc, but e. g. not for mips.
