The MySQL scripts do not do it and I had not yet time to implement a Debian specific change. Patches are welcome though :) > I do have a valid LAN IP address and my hostname is in /etc/hosts. > I've looked at the errors in syslog (the same ones I saw in sarge). > No, mysqld is not running, so "/usr/sbin/mysqld --skip-grant &" fails. So two problems: a) how to change the root password and b) why is your server not running a) is explained in the manual at www.mysql.com, please see there until its automated b) You should not need to run /usr/sbin/mysqld by hand and neither modify /etc/mysql/debian.cnf. When running /etc/init.d/mysql and it fails, it prints a note saying that you shoul look into /var/log/syslog for more information. Please take a look there for the reasons your server does not start anymore and mail me the relevant messages, then I can help you. bye, -christian- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
