Thank you for your interest in improving Debian, and sorry to keep the bug unattended for so long. There's now an effort to review the open bugs related with SDL packages. There have been new upstream versions released since this bug was reported. It would be great if you could test whether the problem is still ocurring, if you still have the hardware available. Otherwise I think that it would be better to close the bug report now, since all elements in the "graphics stack" are different nowadays: sdl upstream, X, video driver, kernel, down to the physical video card (which probably almost nobody uses by now).
