kernel-package itself does not create the link in the
kernel-headers-* package, so it can't solve the conflict. At this
point, it seems to me that the official kernel-headers and the self
compiled kernel-image packages come with the build symlink in the
.deb, and this is a bad thing.

The solution would be to create these links in a versioned
directory, and to replicate them all in postinst; but this needs to
be coordinated between whatever is creating the symlink in the
 official headers package and kernel-package.
