Why isn't the documentation available pre-generated in the upstream
source?  If upstream are using gtk-doc correctly, this should be
automatic.

If you must generate the docs, why not generate them by-hand (or with
a script), and include them in the Debian .diff.gz.  This way they
only get generated once, and you can remove the gtk-doc
build-dependency, reducing the load on the autobuilders and the
complexity of the build.  If you can't track down the cause on merkel,
please do consider doing this.
