Subject: jpilot-backup: Debian patches break database management Package: jpilot-backup Version: 0.51-1 Severity: important
*** Please type your report below this line *** In the copy of jpilot-backup provided with Debian, manipulating the lists of databases is not saved to the .dbm files. Without the ability to pick which items to backup, this plugin is pretty useless. Building a copy from the upstream source produces correct behavior. Since the only code patch in the Debian version is the small one related to utf8 strings. My best guess is that, while the strings are being stored as utf8 in the widget, they aren't being de-utf8'd before going to the dbm_move function. However, I don't really know much of anything about gtk+/utf8 programming, so that's speculation. I read through bug#288431, which seems like it has some relation to this one. I'm seeing the gobbledygook item in the active databases list, and the crash when trying to move it. Dinking with my LANG variable (which is normally not present) merely produced carping from gtk+ about the locale not being supported by the libc and that it was falling back to 'C'. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.29-van1 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages jpilot-backup depends on: ii jpilot 0.99.7-0.99.8-pre7-1 graphical app. to modify the conte ii libatk1.0-0 1.8.0-4 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgdbm3 1.8.3-2 GNU dbm database routines (runtime ii libglib2.0-0 2.6.1-3 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.4.14-2 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libpango1.0-0 1.6.0-3 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpisock8 0.11.8-10 Library for communicating with a P -- no debconf information -- -Cheetah "Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away". -- Philip K.
