I too am getting this problem, but with a PC using nothing but IDE drives. I suspect that the trouble stems from the fact I'm trying to set up a RAID1 mirror as my root disk.
I've tried using "mkinitrd" and adding "md" and "raid1" to the /etc/mkinitrd/modules.conf file, but no change. The 2.4 kernel (that comes on the "testing" install CD) works fine. A comparison of the two boot sequences hasn't told me anything significant yet, but here is what I've noted: - the 2.6 kernel finds 8 hard drives (correct) but the 2.4 kernel finds only 4 because it does not recognize the extra PCI IDE controller card. - both show md starding and md0 started with 2 disks in a RAID1 setup. I'm going to try to turn on command-echo for the "init" script on the initrd and see if that tells me anything more. I'll let you know what I find.
