even if the OP on the ML message pointed out previously doesn't say so,
compiling with
./configure --prefix=/usr --mandir=/usr/share/man
--sysconfdir=/etc/X11/fluxbox \
--enable-slit --enable-xinerama --disable-xmb --disable-gnome
--disable-kde
fixes this problem. Anyway I don't know if removing multibyte font
support is advisable
