Package: libafterstep0 Version: 2.00.01-4 Severity: normal When first started (i.e. when the ~/.afterstep directory is created), afterstep sends an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED], containing information about the system afterstep is running on. The user is not informed about this message and has no choice not to send it. I noticed it only, because the MTA on this computer was not correctly set up and I received a notification about a frozen message.
I am not sure if this is in violation of any written Debian policy, but it is definitely a behaviour I do not expect from a free GNU/Linux distribution. The code can be found in libAfterStep/session.c and is marked with a "#if defined(DO_SEND_POSTCARD)". It can be switched off with a configure-option. I suggest to disable the code by adding --disable-send-postcard-to-developer to the configure options in the debian/rules file -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-i8k Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages libafterstep0 depends on: ii afterstep 2.00.01-4 A window manager with the NEXTSTEP ii libafterimage0 2.00.01-4 Imaging library designed for After ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libice6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libsm6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Window System Session Management ii libx11-6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii xlibs 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Keyboard Extension (XKB) configu -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
