Well, after thinking about it some more, I'm inclined to remove this
xscreensaver.kss file from the next release of xscreensaver (unless I
hear a good reason not to.)  I added it at someone's request years ago,
but now I think it just doesn't belong there at all.

If the KDE folks think they should be using their own screen saving
framework instead of my xscreensaver daemon, that's their choice; but if
they also choose to try and run the xscreensaver display modes in that
foreign framework, then *they* should be the ones responsible for, you
know, making it actually *work*.

In my opinion, and from what I hear of the experience of others, the
only sensible way to make use of xscreensaver in a KDE environment is to
disable KDE's screensaver framework and run the xscreensaver daemon, as
documented in the xscreensaver FAQ and manual:
