Package: libgd2 Severity: important Version: 2.0.33-1.1
After some talking on #debian-devel, the following came to my attention: libgd2{,-dev} currently Depends: libgd2-noxpm{,-dev} (>= 2.0.4-2) | libgd2-xpm{,-dev} (>= 2.0.4-2); This means that by default someone upgrading from woody will go from a situation where they have xpm support in libgd2, to a situation where they do not. This may be RC severity, but I'll leave that up to the RM's determination. Furthermore, providing multiple -dev versions means that the situtation facing ntop (#291701) is quite likely, where a package that actually requires the xpm version of libgd2 can't be built because another package Build-Depends: upon the noxpm version. In short, there's no point at all to have the noxpm versions, since everyone should be Build-Depends: upon the xpm ones anyway. Possible solutions: 1) Totally drop the noxpm packages. [The splitting of the x libraries really makes them superfluous anyway, and they're only going to become more useless post sarge.] 2) Only have a libgd2-noxpm package, and no -dev package.
