The appropriate tool is not obvious. OK, dug this out of the manual: Shift places the pencil tool into straight line mode. So for Pencil Tool's onmouseover note, it should also mention "draw lines" not just 'hard edged pixels'. Anyway, it is merely a SHIFT away, but one must dig in the manual to find out.
