i have never seen this message before. everything in the initrd should
be running as root.

in the latest version of initrd-netboot-tools (0.5.3cvs.20040906-10)
some changes were made to the initrd code- perhaps try the newer version
to see if it is fixed?

or alternately, try the version from upstream, and see if that works for
you: http://lessdisks.net/debian/current
