| Please tell me a way to reproduce this. at best starting with a user

| mozilla-thunderbird before starting)
|
| I just tried apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird-enigmail

|
| started it with a user that has no ~/.mozilla-thunderbird directory.
|
| created my mail account and _could_ used enigmail successfully.

| So what's different on your side?

Well, I guess I did have remains of an old install lying around - your
suggested procedure worked fine. Maybe it would be good to put a warning
message, either through debconf on install time or (if that's possible)
on Thunderbird's first boot ? Anyway, sorry for wasting your time
