Package: debian-installer
Followup-For: Bug #288522

Ok, I did an lsmod just after "network hardware detection." 1394
devices were not listed. After some fiddling, I found that if i did
a "modprobe ohci1394" during the language selection that once I got to
the network hardware selection that the proper network interfaces were
listed:

        eth0: 3com card
        eth1: firewire ethernet
        eth2: wireless ethernet

and lsmod showed that eth1394 and ieee1394 were properly loaded.
So, I guess that all that really needs to be done is to load the
ohci1394 module during the component initialization step. Phew...now
that was a lot of work to figure out that a single module was the
culprit. But hey, at least I learned something, and I'm
contributing...so yay :-)
