hpguid is indeed left behind as a daemon, to present GUI messages to the user. But it should not leave zoombies behind. Unfortunately, I have *zero* capability of testing any of the scan/photo-card access functions, so we will need your help to try to fix this. Upstream tells me a 0.8.7 release is just around the corner. After it is released, and uploaded to debian, I'd like you to re-test the issue to see if it was fixed upstream, and report back to this bug.
