That gives this result: root# bash -x /var/lib/dpkg/info/fvwm.postinst configure + set -e + package_name=fvwm + '[' -z fvwm ']' + '[' '!' -x /etc/menu-methods/fvwm ']' + '[' '!' -x /usr/bin/update-menus ']' + /usr/bin/update-menus + '[' -e /usr/share/debconf/confmodule ']' + . /usr/share/debconf/confmodule ++ '[' '!' '' ']' ++ exec /usr/share/debconf/frontend /var/lib/dpkg/info/fvwm.postinst configure root# I fear that you're still going to be in the dark about what's going wrong. The status returned is 1. It appears that the last command, /usr/share/debconf/frontend is returning this error status. I'm ready to run any further tests that may shed light on this problem.
