Some questions:
- which kernel version (I'd say 2.6.something)
- if so may you send the output of:
  cat /proc/bus/input/devices
  ls -l /dev/input/event*

If my suspects are correct you probably need to create more device nodes
in /dev/input (see man MAKEDEV or ask me again)
The log says in fact that only 2 nodes have been scanned while probably
your touchpad is bound to a missing node (I have it in
/dev/input/event5 for example). Debian doesn't create so many event
nodes by default.
