Package: xanim
Version: 2.80.1-14
Severity: wishlist
xanim doesn't support some codecs for video/quicktime. For instance:
XAnim Rev 2.80.0 by Mark Podlipec Copyright (C) 1991-1999. All Rights Reserved
Video Codec: Unknown SVQ3(53565133) not yet supported.(E20)
Unknown(and unsupported) Audio Codec: msU(0x6d730055).
Notice: Video and Audio are present, but not yet supported.
The problem is that it has a video/quicktime entry in the system
mailcap file (video/quicktime), and playing such video files fail,
whereas xine, which also has a video/quicktime entry, can play the
above file but isn't chosen since xanim has the precedence in the
mailcap file. Of course, the user can fix the problem in his own
~/.mailcap file (or this can be done in /etc/mailcap.order, with
some limitations), but it would be better if the system mailcap
could cope with the unsupported codecs. For that, I suppose that
xanim should provide a way to test if it can play the quicktime
movie, and this test should be used instead of test -n "$DISPLAY"
in the /etc/mailcap entry.
