I've found a fix/workaround for another audio-related python program:

with the relevant parts of the patch being:
+#define PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN

- unsigned output_len;
+ Py_ssize_t output_len;
I haven't checked if something like this would work in audiotools or if
there is a better solution.
