Hi,
if e.g. lightdm is used to run a Gnome session instead of gdm3, it is
not possbile to lock the screen. The only visible clue is that the
circle "lock screen" button at the bottom of the top-right panel menu
(between the settings and poweroff buttons) is not present (thought that
doesn't help new users).
If the user suspends their system, it will come up unlocked, which is a
huge security problem.
So apart from making sure that gdm3 is used with Gnome3 (a different
thing to be figured out), gnome-shell should display a prominent warning
that screen locking will not work when the user logs in, possibly with a
"do not show me this warning again" option.
Or maybe alternatively, it could gain a Depends on gnome-screensaver as
a fallback in that case? I haven't tested whether that would work.
