upgrading sarge system breaks authdaemon, preventing user authentications
for courier-imap-ssl service. reinstallation of courier components
fails in configuration phase. Here is a transcript of the failure message:

package removal, and manual purge of all remaining courier files/dirs
followed by a cache purge and a reinstallation fails due to errors
related to dependencies on conf files that have not yet been written
to disk. courier-imap-ssl package does not generate ssl certificate, or
associated configuration files in /etc/courier. System info is as follows:

system is tracking debian/sarge with kernel:
